West Central names new superintendent

West Central has named a new superintendent and he is not new to the school corporation, just the position.
West Central School Corporation board members approved to hire Dan Zylstra as the new district superintendent during a special meeting on May 9. Zylstra is the current West Central Elementary School principal.
The superintendent position became open as current superintendent Don Street announced his resignation that will be effective June 30. Street was approved as the Kankakee Valley School Corporation superintendent on Monday, April 8.
Zylstra has been the West Central Elementary school principal since August 2012. Previously, he was a music teacher at the School City of Hammond for five years and the Lansing Christian School for one year. While at West Central, Zylstra expanded his experience and began driving school buses for field trips. That experience helped him learn  more about the transportation aspect of the corporation.
As Zylstra becomes superintendent, one of the  things he will miss the most is the everyday interaction he will have with the students but he still plans to drive a bus when he can.
Zylstra and his wife of 12 years, Lisa, live in Francesville with their four children. He will begin his work as the superintendent on July 1, 2019, and will be the sixth superintendent in the history of the corporation.
