William E. Fites

Nov. 26, 1926 — June 14, 2016

William E. “Bill” Fites, 89, of Winamac, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, June 14. He passed away unexpectedly. 

Bill was born Nov. 26, 1926, in Winamac, to the late Ike and Blanche Fites. He was a graduate of Winamac High School. Bill served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Korea during World War II. He was a life member of the VFW. 

Bill was retired from Galbreath and had previously worked at Shepard’s Chevrolet and Jim Dobson Ford as a parts manager. Bill was the former owner of the B & B Inn in Beardstown and had also been a part-time rural mail carrier.

Bill served on the Winamac Volunteer Fire Department for many years. 

Bill enjoyed fishing and watching NASCAR. He loved his family dearly, especially his grandchildren. He will be sadly missed.

Survivors include his daughters: Lois [George] Reynolds of Winamac, Carolyn [Chuck] Redlin of Winamac, Marilyn Rose of Marion, and Nancy [Mike] Abraham of Wanatah; son Steven [Minner] Fites of Winamac; 10 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. 

He was preceded in death by his parents Dwight “Ike” and Blanche (Baker) Fites; brother Don Fites; and sisters: Jeanette Ginder and Lois Mae James. 

Visitation was 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Friday, June 17, at Frain Mortuary, Winamac. Funeral services followed at 2 p.m. Friday, June 17, at Frain Mortuary. Rev. Edward Clark officiated. Burial took place in Winamac Cemetery, Winamac. The American Legion and VFW conducted military graveside services.

Memorial contributions may be given to Pulaski Animal Center or American Heart Association.
