Sondra Sue Strasser
Sondra Sue Strasser, 72, died on Sept. 15 at 8:50 a.m. following an extended two-year period with health issues and illness. During this whole time, she tried her best to keep a good attitude and stay strong for those who loved her.
Sondra almost seemed she was born of another time, with a strong pioneering spirit. She loved the outdoors. She lived a very interesting life and followed the beat of her own drum. For instance, she lived for four years in a teepee in South Carolina that she built herself, living off the land as much as possible with the love of her life: Will Few.
She also, later, built an entire two-story house from the ground up (including doing her own plumbing and electric work) with very little help while working a full-time job at the age of 60! She did an amazing job, much to the surprise of many people, and it was a beautiful home! She was the strongest, most resourceful person you could ever know. But she was also the kindest person, with a beautiful heart ... never judging others.
Sondra had many hardships and heartaches in her life, but she somehow always maintained a positive outlook; always looking for the silver lining. She rarely got mad, even when others felt she should. It just wasn’t her.
Anyone that knew Sondra understood that her passion in life was her beloved animals! She had a deep and rare affinity for all animals and cared for them better than she cared for herself. Her animals were the luckiest animals in the world for they were well loved.
Sondra was her own person with her own unique and beautiful spirit. She is loved by many and will be very missed by those who had the privilege of knowing her.
She is survived by her sisters: Beverly [Larry] Miller of Winamac and Kay Strasser of Winamac; daughters: Colleen Craig of Albion and Dorri [Mike] O’Donnell of Winamac; son Barney Brent Frain of Georgia; granddaughters: Nicole Hatfield, Sarah [Jeremy] Mason, Lorien [Terry] Hale, Brittney [Matt] Voltz, Jessika Skelton and Lyndsi Ringen; grandson Michael O’Donnell; and 11 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her father Barney Strasser; and her mother Dorothy Strasser.
Visitation will be at 10 a.m. with a memorial service to follow at 11 a.m. at the Methodist Church in Winamac, on Saturday, Oct. 3. A meal will follow.
