Feb. 16, 1939 — Feb. 13, 2024

Sharon C. Walters, age 84, of Fair Oaks, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Feb. 13, surrounded by loved ones in the comfort of her home. She was the last of 10 siblings, born on Feb. 16, 1939, in Mishawaka, to Walter and Madeline (DeSmet) Riege.

Sharon was a dedicated homemaker and a proud high school graduate. She cherished her family and was married to John Earl Walters Sr., who preceded her in death on Aug. 18, 2017. Sharon was a faithful member of Virgie Christian Church, where she found solace and community.

Her life was a tapestry woven with love and simple pleasures. Sharon found joy in the routine of cooking and cleaning and she delighted in the intellectual challenges of puzzles and word searches. Her artistic spirit shone through in her passion for painting ceramics, creating beautiful pieces that will be cherished as lasting memories.

Sharon is survived by her loving daughter, Nancy [Wyatt] Stone of Lafayette; grandson Chandler Stone; and great-grandchildren: Bailiy, Hailiy and Nicholas. She is also survived by her sisters-in-law: Loretta, Eleanore and Joann; as well as her cousin, Sherriann McEnaney; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John Sr.; her son John Earl Walters Jr.; her grandchildren: Kayla Stone and Paul Lee Walters; and all of her siblings. In the face of this sorrow, may we find solace in the fond memories that linger, a testament to the love and laughter she brought into our lives.

Visitation to celebrate Sharon’s life was held at Jackson Funeral Service of DeMotte on Saturday, Feb. 17, from 10 a.m. until 12 p.m. The funeral service immediately followed at 12 p.m., with Pastor Bill Taylor officiating.

The interment took place at DeMotte Cemetery, where she found eternal rest beside her beloved husband and son.
