Romayne Wentzel
Romayne Wentzel, 91, of Kewanna, passed away peacefully at 8:35 a.m., Friday, April 29, at Wynnfield Crossing in Rochester.
Born March 8, 1925, in Macy, she was the daughter of the late Russell and Esther (Donaldson) Smith.
On July 2, 1950, she married Covert Leroy Wentzel. He preceded her in death on Jan. 27, 1997.
Romayne was a 1943 Fulton High School graduate and a graduate of Indiana University Nursing School. She was also a member of the cadet nurse program during World War II.
She formerly worked at Woodlawn Hospital in Rochester as a nurse. She was also a homemaker and farm wife. Romayne enjoyed reading.
She was very involved in the development and construction of the new addition to the Kewanna Public Library.
She was a member of Pleasant Hill Church at Bruce Lake and a former board member of the Kewanna Public Library for more than 10 years and was also a member of Farm Bureau.
Survivors include her children: Timothy [Jeri] Wentzel of Hicksville, Ohio, Roger [Julie] Wentzel of Falls Church, Virgina, Donald [Amy] Wentzel of Fishers, Rebecca [Michael] Slentz of Butler, Christine [Spencer] Stopa of Mesa, Arizona, and Carol Holmquest of Kewanna; grandchildren: Karla [Jeremy] Morton of Fulton, Missouri, Laura Wentzel [Whitney Asher] of Lenox, Massachusetts, Stephen Wentzel of Lenox, Massachusetts, Daniel [Megan] Wentzel of Las Cruces, New Mexico, John [Angie] Slentz of Butler, Rachel Slentz of Mishawaka, Matthew Slentz of Kiel, Wisconsin, Peter Wentzel of Falls Church, Virgina, Katya Wentzel of Falls Church, Virgina, Nicholas Wentzel of Falls Church, Virgina, Nicole Stopa [J. Mardambek] of Anchorage, Arkansas, Natasha Stopa of Madison, Wisconsin, Franciszka Stopa of Socorro, New Mexico, Alex Wentzel of Fishers, Ryan Wentzel of Fishers, and Derek Wentzel of Fishers; great-grandchildren: Timothy Morton of Fulton, Missouri, and Pearl Slentz and Rowan Tinker, both of Butler; sisters-in-law: Donna Smith of Rochester, and Nancy Wentzel, of Plymouth, and several nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by sisters: Marian Miller and Maxine Smith; and brothers: Phillip Smith and Robert Smith.
Visitation was 4-8 p.m., Tuesday, May 3, at Harrison-Metzger-Rans Funeral Home, Kewanna Chapel. Services will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, May 4, at the funeral home with Pastor Steve Miller officiating. Burial will be at Bruce Lake Cemetery.
