Paul E. “Doc” Smith, Jr.

Feb. 28, 1961 — April 17, 2025

Paul Edward “Doc” Smith, Jr., 64, of Rochester, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, April 17, at his home. 

He was born on Feb. 28, 1961 in Logansport. Doc grew up in Monterey and graduated from Culver Community High School in 1979. After graduating mid-term, he joined the United States Marine Corps and proudly served his country for four years.  

On Oct. 14, 2007, Doc married Alma Omecnol at New Life Church in Rochester. He worked as a delivery driver for Dean Foods in Rochester until they closed in 2015.  After retirement, he enjoyed spending time with his family and sharing his love for collectibles with his daughters and grandsons. He was an avid fan of Batman, Godzilla and Jackie Chan. Doc loved his family and his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

He is survived by wife Alma (Omecnol) Smith, Rochester; daughter Julie [husband: Robert] Heien, Bedford, Texas and Megan [husband: Gary] Copelan, Cleburne, Texas; grandsons: Abel Len Heien and Roland Copelan; mother Helena C. (Weaver) Smith Repp, Monterey; sisters: Debra Armstrong, Winamac and Carol [husband: Todd] Hartle, Warsaw; brothers: Daniel [wife: Jennifer] Smith, Monterey, Christopher [wife: Tabitha] Smith, Delong and Omer [fiancée: Shanon] Smith, Rochester; step-brothers: Robert Repp, Plymouth and Larry Repp, Bremen; sister-in-law: Annabelle [Shawn Homme] Emmons, Logansport; and many nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by step-father Leonard J. Repp and nephew Ernest Armstrong III.

Visitation was from 4-8 p.m., Wednesday, April 23 at Frain Mortuary in Winamac.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, April 24 at Frain Mortuary in Winamac.

Burial will take place at Riverside Memorial Cemetery in Monterey. The American Legion conducted military graveside services.
