Nathaniel P. Gutwein
Nathaniel P. “Nate” Gutwein, 94, of Francesville, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 16, at home surrounded by his family.
Nate was born on Jan. 23, 1930, in Francesville to the late Carl P. and Mary L. (Farney) Gutwein. He graduated from Francesville High School in 1948. Nate married Adeline May Novotny on Oct. 7, 1950 ,in Francesville and they had five children. Adeline passed away March 11, 1990. Nate married Rhonda K. Yaggie on April 12, 1992, in Francesville. She survives.
Nate was a lifelong resident and involved member of the Francesville community. He dedicated his working life to the Gutwein Milling Company. Nate was a devoted member of the Apostolic Christian Church in Francesville and faithfully served Jesus Christ, his Lord and Savior.
“Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him and he shall direct thy paths.” Proverbs 3:5-6.
He is survived by wife Rhonda K. (Yaggie) Gutwein, Francesville; daughters: Charlene [Phil] Feldman, Eden Prairie, Minnesota, Monica [Mike] Fritz, Kingston Springs, Tennessee and Corinne [Michael] Dornhecker, St. Paul, Minnesota; son Jeff [Wendy] Gutwein, Forrest, Illinois; 23 grandchildren and 63 great-grandchildren; brothers: Edison [Chrisann] Gutwein, Francesville, Phil [Carol] Gutwein, Francesville, Elden [Mary Lee] Gutwein, Monticello and Rodney [Donna] Gutwein, West Lafayette; sister Juanita Norman, Monon; brothers-in-law: Art Novotny, Francesville, Karl [Donna] Westfall, Francesville, Jim Denton, Francesville and Fred Yaggie, Monticello; sisters-in-law: Yvonne Gutwein, Francesville, Nadine Tucker, Lafayette and Leona [Dean] Speece, Francesville; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by parents: Carl P. and Mary L. (Farney) Gutwein; wife Adeline May (Novotny) Gutwein; son Timothy Wayne Gutwein; sisters: Maxine Novotny, Mary Louise Westfall and Sharon Denton; and brother Carl L. Gutwein.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m., Saturday, April 20, at the Apostolic Christian Church in Francesville with ministers of the church officiating.
Burial took place in Roseland Cemetery in Francesville.
Visitation was from 4-8 p.m., Friday, April 19, at Frain Mortuary Querry-Ulbricht Chapel in Francesville and from 9 to 9:45 a.m. on Saturday at the church.
The family suggests memorial contributions be directed to Parkview Haven Retirement Home in Francesville or Humanitarian Distribution Center in Francesville.
