Kareen A. Nielsen
Kareen A. Nielsen, 91, of North Judson, passed away Friday, June 23, in LaPorte. She was born to Earl S. Schuyler and Clara Neupert in North Judson, on March 5, 1932.
Attending the North Judson schools, Kareen was active in GAA, Student Council, the Pilot and Clarion staff, a drummer in the HS band, and held the lead role for her senior production, “Cinderella Rose.” After being raised on the Schuyler Dairy farm, on June 16, 1950, she married Richard W. Nielsen. They became farmers in the Blue Sea Community area where they enjoyed their life together for over 70 years. Kareen joined with area women in the Gingham Pals Home Ec Club.
Kareen was a childhood member of the United Methodist Church and upon marriage, joined St. Peter Lutheran Church where she was active in the Ladies Aid and Mission League. Dick and Kareen were avid Bluejay fans and attended most sports games their entire lives cheering on their children, grandchildren, and even most recently their great-grandchildren. She shared her love and collections of antiques with all her family and friends.
Joining the American Oak Preserving Co. for over 15 years, Kareen created a variety of prototype samples to present to major craft chain stores and led the design of show booths and the product catalogs for marketing and sales.
Kareen is survived by loving children: Larry [Susan] Nielsen, Linda [Kenneth] Redlin, Kristine Christensen and Rebecca [Anthony] Cook; beloved grandchildren: Genny [Bryan] Hartley, Beth [Rik] O’Halek, Katrina [Alvin] Harper, Erin [Bryan] Tunis, Nicole [Shane] Hinesley, Clayton [Jennifer] Redlin, Erik [Danielle] Christensen, Justin [Kelly] Nielsen, Evan [Erica] Christensen, Ethan Christensen, David [Kylee] Roessler, Schuyler Cook, Whitney [Eli] Smith, Karsten [Hannah] Cook and Myanna Cook; 27 precious great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brothers: Stuart Schuyler, Lloyd Schuyler and Paul Schuyler; and sisters: Clara Elizabeth (Schuyler) Cahill and Arlowa (Schuyler) Vorm.
A Celebration of Life will be held for both KAREEN A. NIELSEN AND RICHARD W. NIELSEN (due to the COVID restrictions at the time of Richard’s death) at 2 p.m. CST at St. Peter Lutheran Church with visitation from 12 p.m. CST until the time of service, on Sunday, July 9. Interment will follow at the Highland Cemetery in North Judson and a meal will follow at the St. Peter Lutheran Church and School.
