John W. Schwemin

June 1, 1929 — Aug. 31, 2015

John W. Schwemin, 86, Winamac, passed away at 8:40 p.m. Monday, Aug. 31, at Hickory Creek at Winamac in Winamac.

He was born June 1, 1929, in Chicago, to John and Agnes (Biskupski) Schwemin.

He was married to Joanne Anderson on Sept. 5, 1952, in Chicago. She passed away Sept. 5, 1994. He then married Phoebe Myers on June 20, 1995, in Plymouth. She survives.

John was a member of the Bass Lake Lions Club and St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, Knox.

He was a former resident of Chicago, moving to Bass Lake in 1993 and then to Winamac in 2013.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict.

John was a retired business agent for the Carpenters’ Union.

He enjoyed remodeling and working on houses.

Survivors include his wife Phoebe G. Schwemin of Winamac; daughters: Kathleen A. [Gary] Wenning of Elkhart, and Donna M. Pugh of Winamac; grandsons: Robert A. Pugh of Winamac, and Matthew N. Wenning of Elkhart; granddaughter Renee A. Pugh of Winamac; and great-grandson Rocco I. Calabrese of Winamac.

He was preceded in death by his parents John and Agnes (Biskupski) Schwemin; first wife Joanne Anderson Schwemin; and two brothers.

Visitation was 9-10:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 4, at Frain Mortuary, Winamac. A funeral Mass was held at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 4, at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Winamac. Rev. Leroy Kinnaman officiated. Burial took place in Crown Hill Cemetery, Knox. Military graveside services were conducted.
