Jerry G. “Jay” Sullivan, Jr.
Jerry Gene “Jay” Sullivan, Jr., 63, of Winamac, passed way unexpectedly on Friday, Dec. 19.
He was born on Jan. 12, 1962 in Knox, to Betty Jean (Burke) and Jerry Gene Sullivan, Sr. Jay graduated from Winamac High School in 1980 and Purdue University in 1984. On July 29, 1989, he married the love of his life, Patricia A. “Patty” Doty, in North Judson.
Jay worked as a licensed civil engineer and had a passion for farming. He served on the Pulaski County Council for 20 years (8 years as President). He was a proud member of the Pulaski County Republican Party. Jay was a hardworking man who faithfully served his community. He enjoyed his time spent in local politics and coaching his children’s youth sports teams.
Jay was a tried and true Purdue Boilermaker and a big fan of the Winamac Warriors. He was an avid bowler and a Harley enthusiast. In his younger days, Jay spent countless-hours arrowhead hunting and in recent years he shared this hobby with his grandchildren. He had a great sense of humor and never missed opportunity to bring a smile to your face. He was the kind of man who never met a stranger. Jay was a loving and devoted husband, father and PaPa who will be dearly missed.
He is survived by wife Patricia A. “Patty” (Doty) Sullivan, Winamac; daughters: Anna [fiancé: Paul] Sullivan, Middleton, Wisconsin and Katie [husband: Nick] Keyser, Chicago, Illinois; son Jason Sullivan, Winamac; three grandchildren: Julian, Adrian and Maya; three granddogs: Bulba, MJ and Peterbilt; mother Betty Jean (Burke) Sullivan, Midland, Michigan; sister Christine [husband: Todd] Wood Miller, Midland, Michigan; mother-in-law Melody Doty, Winamac; brother-in-law Rich [wife: Davon] Doty, Winamac; sister-in-law April [husband: Chad] Compton, Star City; many nieces and nephews; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
Preceded in death by father Jerry Gene Sullivan, Sr.; paternal grandfather John Sullivan; paternal grandmother Marjorie (Schricker) Sullivan Mau; paternal step-grandfather Arthur Carl Mau, Sr.; and maternal grandparents: James and Eva (Michi) Burke.
Visitation was from 3-7 p.m., Friday, Dec. 26, at Frain Mortuary in Winamac.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 27, at Frain Mortuary in Winamac, with Rev. Leroy Kinnaman officiating.
Burial took place at St. Peter’s Cemetery in Winamac.
