Jeffrey A. Heims

Jeffrey A. Heims, 61, of Winamac, passed away peacefully at 1:42 a.m., Tuesday, July 7, at home surrounded by family.

Born on Jan. 9, 1965 in Winamac, he was the son of the late Donald Heims and Miriam Lloyd.

He was a 1983 Winamac High School graduate. Jeff also graduated from Indiana State University with a Bachelor of Science in Criminology and a minor in Psychology. Jeff then graduated from the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy in 1989.

On Sept. 12, 1992 he married Rhonda DePoy, she survives.

Jeff was a retired Chief of Police in Winamac and served the community for over 25 years. During his tour, he held the ranks of Jailer, Patrolman, Sergeant and Chief of Police. He was also the D.A.R.E. Officer for the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office. Jeff also owned and operated McKinley-Heims Monuments Inc. and Heims Tree Service.

He enjoyed riding his Harley, hunting and spending time with family and friends.

Survivors include his wife, Rhonda Heims; daughters: Nicole Katschke [Tyler] and Hallie Heims; siblings: Dawn Bailey [Glenn] and Chad Winters [Colleen]; grandchildren: Kai Alan, Brynn Elexes, Kobie Lynn and Brayli Alivia; mother and father-in-law: Betty Sue and Harry Dewayne Depoy; and sister-in-law, Susan Uhls [Kevin].

Services were at 11 a.m., Saturday, July 11 at Rans Funeral Homes & Crematory, Winamac Chapel, 110 N. Sally Dr., Winamac.

Visitation was from 4 to 8 p.m., Friday, July 10, at the funeral home.

Burial will be at the Winamac Cemetery, McKinley Addition.
