Forrest C. Stone

Forrest C. Stone, 89, of Francesville, passed away at 5:01 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 20, at his home surrounded by his family.

He was born on Nov. 21, 1925, in rural Francesville, to the late Clarence and Gertrude Pike Stone.

On Dec. 29, 1946, he married the love of his life, Gwendolyn Cook, in Monon. She passed away on June 15, 2010.

Forrest graduated from Francesville High School in 1943. He was a lifelong farmer in Pulaski County. Later in life, he enjoyed buying, selling and refinishing antiques.

Forrest was an active member of the Francesville United Methodist Church where he served on the church board for many years.

Forrest was a Chicago Cubs and Purdue Boilermakers fan. He was a longtime member of the John Purdue Club, Golden Jacket Club and the Coach’s Club. He was also a longtime member of the Francesville Lions Club and a 50-year member of the Winamac Masonic Lodge #262 F&AM (formerly Monong Lodge of Francesville). He served on the Francesville-Salem Township Library board.

Forrest was an avid golfer and very proudly achieved a hole-in-one at Curtis Creek Golf Course when he was 64. He was also an avid hunter. He enjoyed boating and water skiing. He taught countless kids how to ski over the years. Forrest enjoyed traveling with Gwen.

Forrest was a devoted father and grandfather. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.

Survivors include sons: Gregory C. [Karen] Stone of Francesville, Gary L. [Trudy] Stone of West Lafayette, and Michael F. [Lisa] Stone of Worcester, Massachusetts; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents Clarence Stone and Gertrude Pike Stone; wife Gwendolyn Cook Stone; sisters Pauline Rowe and Dorothy Metzger.

Visitation was from 2-6 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 23, at Frain Mortuary Querry-Ulbricht Chapel, Francesville. Funeral services were at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 24, at the funeral home. Pastor Hal Cohn officiated.

Burial took place in Roseland Cemetery, Francesville.
