Emanuel C. “Mann” Hoover

Emanuel C. “Mann” Hoover, 86, lifelong farmer from Star City, passed away on Friday, July 19, at Hickory Creek at Rochester. He was born on September 14, 1937, in Winamac, to the late Leo C. and Edna Mae (Geier) Hoover. Mann graduated from Pulaski High School in 1955. On August 25, 1972, he married Martha Lynn Small in Monticello. She passed away on Feb. 2, 1992. 

Mann was a longtime member of the Northern Indiana Power From the Past and enjoyed organizing the pedal tractor pulls.  He was also a member of the IH Collector’s Club and Pulaski Fest-a-Mill Committee. Mann had a great mind for creating and inventing new things. His talent went beyond simple tinkering. 

In addition to being a successful farmer, Mann was also a talented drainage contractor. He was well known in the area for his wit and sense of humor. Most recently, Mann forged strong friendships with the staff and residents of Hickory Creek. 

He is survived by his brother Fremont L. [Shirley] Hoover; nieces: Shirley [Frank] Shilling, Susan Henry, Marjorie [Tom] Overmyer, Karen Davis, Peggy Davis, Christine [Tim] Allen, Vicki Tibbals, Heather Small, Terri Wood; nephews: Richard [Jane] Hoover, Joseph [Marie] Hoover, Charles [Phyllis] Hoover, Lawrence [Wendy] Hoover, Christopher [Angela] Hoover, Jeremy Hoover, Keith Small; many great nieces and nephews; brother-in-laws: Jim Small and Don Small.

He is preceded in death by his parents Leo C. and Edna Mae (Geier) Hoover; wife Martha Lynn Small; brothers Arden L. [Ann] Hoover and Howard F. [Evelyn] Hoover; brother-in-law: Bob Small; and infant nephew Kenneth Carl Hoover.

Visitation will be from 3-7 p.m. Wednesday, July 24, at Frain Mortuary in Winamac.

Additional Visitation will be from 10-11 a.m. Thursday, July 25, at Frain Mortuary in Winamac.

Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 25, at Frain Mortuary in Winamac, with Rev. Ed Clark officiating.  

Burial will take place at Winamac Cemetery (McKinley Addition) in Winamac.

Memorial Contributions may be made to Pulaski Fest-a-Mill (for the annual Christmas light display).
