Elizabeth J. “Betty” Thompson

Aug. 30, 1940 — April 25, 2023

Elizabeth J. “Betty” Thompson, 82, of Winamac, passed away on Tuesday, April 25, at her home surrounded by her family.  

She was born on Aug. 30, 1940 in Winamac to the late John and Lillian Jane (Oldfield) Vedok.  

Betty enjoyed gardening, shopping and traveling. She attended First Christian Church in Winamac. She adored her cat, Sweetie Pie. Most of all, Betty loved her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her son Kenneth Thompson; daughters: Kimberly [Miles] Malmborg and Kellie [Bryan] Wheeler; granddaughters: Heather Mullings and Amber [Thomas] McShane; grandsons: Daniel Thompson, Jacob [Chelsey] Thompson, Justin Wheeler, Jeremy Malmborg, Blake Malmborg, Cameron Malmborg and Collin [Jacquelyn] Wheeler; great-granddaughters: Payton Mullings and Penelope McShane; sister Mary [David] Thill; brother Stephen [Sue] Vedok; and several nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by parents: John and Lillian Jane (Oldfield) Vedok; sisters: Catherine Liddicoatt, Lorraine Lockridge, Violet Faber, Anna Koekenberg and Dorothy Kline; brothers: John Vedok, Jr., Michael Vedok, Sr. and Joseph Vedok; niece Gail Peark; and nephews: Michael Vedok, Jr. and John P. Vedok.

Memorial services will be held at the Church of Christ in Itasca, Illinois on Saturday, June 10.  

Private burial will take place at Chapel Hill Gardens West Cemetery in Oak Brook Terrace, Illinois.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or Gentiva Hospice.
