Elizabeth “Betty” A. Parcel
Elizabeth A. “Betty” Parcel, 82, of Star City, passed away at 4:05 a.m. Tuesday, March 1, at White Oak Health Campus in Monticello.
She was born July 7, 1933, in Winamac, to Peter and Martha (Wills) Wegner.
Betty married Darl Dean Parcel on March 2, 1957, in St. Peter's Catholic Church in Winamac. He died on Jan. 21, 2003.
She was a member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church. Betty volunteered for the Pulaski Memorial Auxiliary for many years. She was a member and past president of the Star City Lions Club and was a longtime secretary/treasurer of the Pulaski County Democrat ladies group. Betty was a member of Bunco Club and Book Club and Red Hats.
Betty was recognized as a Pulaski County Woman of the Year. She especially enjoyed lunch with her former co-workers.
Betty and her husband Dean enjoyed golfing, square dancing and doing woodworking projects together. She also enjoyed painting and crocheting.
Betty worked as a bookkeeper and Star City branch manager of the First Union Bank for many years. She also worked in the Pulaski County Treasurer's office and auditor’s office for several years. Her proudest achievement was being a farmer’s wife for many years.
Betty will be sadly missed by her family, especially her nieces and nephews.
Survivors include her brothers: Joseph J. [Mary] Wegner of Kewanna, and Donald R. [Cathy] Wegner of Winamac; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Darl Dean Parcel; and parents Peter and Martha (Wills) Wegner.
Visitation was from 3-8 p.m. Thursday, March 3, at Frain Mortuary. A funeral mass was held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 4, at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Winamac. Rev. Leroy Kinnaman officiated. Burial took place in Star City West Cemetery in Star City. A scriptural wake service was held at 3 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be given to the Star City Lions Club or American Heart Fund.
