Douglas “Doug” F. Haley

Douglas “Doug” Francis Haley, 80, of Winamac, passed away at his home on Saturday, Aug. 31 after a short illness. Doug was born on Oct. 22, 1943, in Gary to the late Betty (Gulas) and Douglas Haley Sr. 

Doug graduated from Lew Wallace High School in 1961. He earned a bachelor degree from Indiana State University, Terre Haute and later earned a second bachelor degree from Ball State University, Muncie. It was while he was in Terre Haute that he met his first wife, Patricia Kay (Goldman) Haley who he married in 1968. Patricia died of cancer in 1976. 

After Patricia’s death, he moved his young family from Gary to Winamac in order to run the local newspaper. Doug loved to fly and was a pilot for many years. 

Doug was also a long time Iron Worker with Local 395. 

Doug was a staunch Trump supporter and his most liberal son has agreed to pull the Trump lever in November in honor of his late father. Though in true Democrat fashion, we believe an absentee ballot would be the more suitable option. 

Doug is survived by his current wife, Amanda Haley. 

Doug is also survived by his children: Elizabeth Haley [Brant Palumbo], Austin, Texas, Kari Haley, Chicago, Illinois, John Haley [Kari Beth Maxson], Winamac and James Haley (his mother Freda Haley), Burbank, California; his brother Greg Haley [Tammy], Syracuse, New York; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.   

He was proceeded in death by his adopted daughter, Lisa Haley; his mother, Betty Gulas; his stepfather, William Gulas; his first wife, Patricia Haley; and his biological father, Doug Haley.

“Stay in the car I’ll be RIGHT back.”

“You writing a book? Leave that chapter out and make it a mystery.”

“Don’t bogart (insert item here).”

“Quit flapping your jaws.”

“Can you see I’m on the phone?”

“It’ll be fine.”
