Donald P. “Don” Busch

Donald P. “Don” Busch, 97, of Monticello, formerly of Pulaski County, passed away on Monday, June 29, at White Oak Health Campus.

Don was born at the home of his parents, Samuel W. and Lola I. (Westphal) Busch, on May 3, 1929 in Beaver Township, Pulaski County. After graduating from Francesville High School in 1947, Don began farming with his father. He served in the US Air Force during the Korean Conflict and was a lifetime member of the Francesville American Legion Post #228. After returning home from his military service, he resumed farming. 

Don married Shirley A. Cords on Oct. 11, 1952 and together they owned and operated Busch Farm Service in Francesville for over 35 years. He devoted his life to agriculture through responsible farming and providing exceptional service to local farmers. He served as a committeeman for the Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service (ASCS) and as a member of the Pulaski Health Foundation Board. Don was a longtime member of St. James Salem Community Church and the Pulaski County Chapter of The Gideon’s International.  

Don enjoyed Indy 500 racing as well as flying and held a private pilot license. Don faithfully served his community in numerous ways throughout his life. He was a man of faith and hope and is at home with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Well done, good and faithful servant.

Don is survived by his wife, Shirley A. (Cords) Busch; three children: David W. [wife: Elizabeth] Busch, Susan E. Valencic and Valerie A. Ruess; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Ruth N. Lutes; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. 

He was preceded in death by his parents: Samuel W. and Lola I. (Westphal) Busch; a brother, Arthur R. [wife: Rosemary M.] Busch; and a brother-in-law, James B. Lutes.

Visitation and services were held at St. James Salem Community Church in Francesville. Burial with military honors took place at St. James Salem Cemetery in Francesville.
