Donald L. Hale

Donald L. Hale, 88, of Winamac, passed away on Monday, Dec. 4, at Brickyard Terrace Care Center in LaPorte. 

He was born on April 19, 1935, in Magoffin County, Kentucky to the late Robert B. and Betty Sue (Stephens) Hale. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.  On Oct. 25, 1958, Don married Jacqueline Waterhouse in Bergenfield, New Jersey.  

Don was a proud member of the Winamac VFW Post #1728 and Winamac American Legion Post #71. He served many years on the local honor guard. 

Don was a member of the Church of the Heartland in Winamac. He enjoyed golfing with friends, traveling with his family, and attending his grandkids sporting events. Don also enjoyed the outdoors, especially fishing on the Tippecanoe River and mowing his lawn. He was a kind man who did not know a stranger.  

He is survived by wife Jacqueline (Waterhouse) Hale, Winamac; daughters: Robin Hale, Indianapolis, Deborah [David Whiteman] Hale-Worrell, Westlake Village, California and Tracie [Jeremy] Jones, Winamac; son-in-law Patrick Goodman, Winamac; grandson TJ [Jessica] Redlin; granddaughters: Taylor Jones, Haley Worrell, Chelsea Worrell, Bailey Jones and Everly Jones; great-grandsons: Maverick Redlin and Jaxon Redlin; sister-in-law Mildred Hale, Denham; and many nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by parents: Robert B. and Betty Sue (Stephens) Hale; daughter Jennifer Goodman; brothers: Myrle Hale, James Hale, Billie “Red” Hale, Robert B. “RB” Hale, Jr., Arnold Hale and John P. “JP” Hale; sisters: Mary Calabrese, Elma Brewer and M. Faye Back; and infant brother Earl Hale.

Visitation was from 3-6 p.m., Monday, Dec. 11, at Church of the Heartland in Winamac.  

Funeral service was held at 6 p.m., Monday, Dec. 11, at Church of the Heartland in Winamac with Pastor Heath Hiatt officiating.

Cremation will take place at Frain Crematory in Winamac.

Private burial will take place at Winamac Cemetery (McKinley Addition) in Winamac. The American Legion and VFW will conduct military graveside services.  

Memorial contributions may be made to Church of the Heartland.
