David A. Metzger

Jan. 14, 1953 — Oct. 27, 2026

David Andrew Metzger, 73, of Francesville, passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 27, at his home. He was born on Jan. 14, 1953 in Wabash, to the late Robert and Marilyn (Grogg) Metzger. David graduated from West Central High School in 1971 where he excelled in athletics. After high school, he attended the University of Evansville where he played football. On Aug. 10, 1975, David married Arlene Sue Leman in Francesville. They shared 51 years of marriage, building a life centered on love, joy, and faith.

At age 40, David enrolled at Purdue University to pursue a career in education. He was a dedicated fourth-grade teacher at Eastern Pulaski Elementary School where he made a difference in the lives of his students. After retirement, David continued to enjoy working outdoors, doing farm work for Gudeman Ag.

Faith was an important part of David’s life. He gave his life to the Lord in 1973 and was a faithful, active member of the Francesville Apostolic Christian Church. He served in many roles within the church including Sunday School teacher, a ministry which he deeply loved. He also participated in winter work teams with HarvestCall and served on the Gateway Woods board of directors.

David faithfully supported his children and grandchildren in their various activities. He treasured spending time with them, especially fishing with his grandchildren. He led quietly by example and displayed patience throughout his life. David’s legacy will live on in the many lives he touched, the lessons he taught, the faith he shared, and the memories that were made.

While our hearts grieve his passing, we are comforted knowing that he has finished the race and his victory in Jesus is won.
