Clara M. Winter

Clara M. Winter, 91, of Star City, died at 12:02 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 14, in the Indiana University Health Arnett Hospital of Lafayette.

Clara was born on Monday, Jan. 4, 1932, in Phoenix, Greenwood County, South Carolina to Clarence and Matilda Byers. They preceded her in death.

On Saturday, Sept. 24, 1954, in the St. Joseph Catholic Church of Pulaski, she married Ralph M. Winter, he died Thursday, Nov. 25, 2010.

Clara was a 1949 graduate of Chalmers High School of Chalmers, moving to Chalmers in second grade. She worked at the USDA office of Newton, Pulaski and White counties, retiring in 1996 after 47 years of service. Clara was active in the State and National Association of Counties. She was also involved in the ASCS employees association. She had lived in Pulaski until 1985 then moved to Monticello. Clara had most recently been living at Five Star Senior Residence in Lafayette. 

Clara is survived by her son Paul J. [wife Linda] Winter of Star City; granddaughter, Linsey M. [husband Ryan Kolish of Winamac]; and three great-grandchildren. 

Clara was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Matilda Byers. 

Graveside services will be held on Friday, Oct. 27, at 1 p.m. at the Pro-Indian Creek Cemetery of rural Pulaski County with Pastor Ed Clark officiating. 

Memorial donations may be given to VFW Post 1728 of Winamac. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home or can be mailed to 6368 E. US 24, Monticello, Indiana 47960 c/o Winter Family.
