Charles R. “Chuck” Webb, 83, of Winamac, passed away at 1:01 p.m. Monday, Sept. 14, at Parkview Regional Medical Center in Ft. Wayne.
Chuck was born on Sept. 21, 1931, in Winamac, to the late William H. and Eula E. (Campbell) Webb.
On July 24, 1953, he married Mary Ann Hauser in Winamac. She survives.
Chuck served three years in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean conflict. He was an active member of the American Legion Post #71 and the VFW Post #1728. As a member of the local honor guard, Chuck presented the flag and played taps at the graveside for numerous fellow veterans.
Chuck retired as postmaster of the Winamac Post Office in 1989. Following retirement, he was employed at Frain Mortuary, where he worked for more than 26 years.
Chuck served on the Winamac Volunteer Fire Department for 31 years. He enjoyed helping with the German Festival. He joined the Winamac Kiwanis Club in 1975, and he served as its president in 1981. He enjoyed helping with the pancake breakfast. His dedication to the club allowed him to maintain a perfect attendance record. In 2014, he received the Kiwanian of the Year award. Chuck was a 50-year member and past master of Winamac Lodge #262 F&AM. He also served many years as chaplain for the Masonic Memorial Services.
Chuck was an avid reader and liked to play golf. He was a Winamac Warrior sports fan and an avid Chicago Cubs fan. He especially enjoyed going to Purdue Football games with Tom White and Notre Dame Football games with Paul Gilsinger.
Chuck and Mary Ann loved to travel. They had visited 46 states together. They also enjoyed going to Four Winds Casino, listening to live music, and attending social functions.
Chuck was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He faithfully attended his grandchildren’s functions during the years. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends.
Survivors include his wife Mary Ann Hauser Webb of Winamac; daughter Julie A. [Sam] Hicks of LaGrange; granddaughters: Alison N. [Marc] Peterson of Momence, Illinois, and Jennifer [Nicholas] Pack of Angola; grandsons: Charles E. [Brandi] Schlabach of Logansport, Steve [Terri] Hicks of Angola, Jeff [Retha] Hicks of Angola, and Randall Hicks of Portland, Oregon; eight great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and extended family Tom [Barb] White and family of Winamac.
He was preceded in death by his parents William H. and Eula E. (Campbell) Webb; brother William T. Webb; three half-sisters; and one half-brother.
Visitation was 3-8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 17, at Frain Mortuary, Winamac, and one hour prior to services Friday at the funeral home. A Kiwanis memorial service took place at 7 p.m. followed by Masonic services at the funeral home Thursday. Funeral services were at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 18, at Frain Mortuary. Rev. Laura Bailey officiated. Burial took place in McKinley Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Winamac. The American Legion and VFW conducted military graveside services.
