Cecil Ray Wireman
Cecil Ray Wireman, 80, of Medaryville, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, July 18. He passed away peacefully at Parkview Haven Retirement Home in Francesville.
Ray was born on Oct. 16, 1940, in Rensselaer. He graduated from Wheatfield High School in 1959. On Feb. 28, 1981, Ray married Shelia Burns at the Medaryville Christian Church. Shelia passed away on July 16, 2020. Ray retired from Bethlehem Steel where he worked many years as a crane operator.
Ray was a kind and generous man who was known to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. He often gave people rides to their doctor’s appointments, the grocery store, or wherever they needed to go. Ray knew everyone and everyone knew Ray. Years ago, he was known as the “mayor of Medaryville”.
Ray enjoyed going to flea markets and was a collector of many things. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Ray will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his daughters: Wendy [Jeremiah] Kopka of Winamac, Sandra Garling of Wheatfield, and Cindi [Jason] Grigsby of Wheatfield; sons: Gavin Wireman of Medaryville, and Tony Wireman of Wheatfield; sisters: Goldie Roberts and Jeannie [Scott] Lacey; nine grandchildren: Gracie, Kole, Anna, Jena, Carly, Candice, Adam, Paige, and Teal; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents Lester and Haley (Wireman) Jones; his wife Shelia (Burns) Wireman; and mother-in-law Nellie Howard.
Visitation was from 4-8 p.m. Monday, July 26 at Frain Mortuary Querry-Ulbricht Chapel in Medaryville.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, July 27 at Frain Mortuary Querry-Ulbricht Chapel in Medaryville with Pastor Tom Dewlen officiating.
Burial will take place at White Post Cemetery in Medaryville.
Memorial contributions may be made to The West Central Backpack Pantry or Medaryville Assembly of God Church or United Baptist Church of Gilliam Township (Bailey’s Corner Church).
