Gary McKinney
Gary McKinney, 71, of Pulaski, passed away on Thursday, Sept. 3. He was born on Jan. 8, 1955 in Lafayette to the late Maurice and Margene (Benson) McKinney. In their later years, he devoted himself to caring for his parents. He graduated from Winamac High School in 1973 and completed an Ag Short Course at Purdue University. Gary spent the greater part of his life on the McKinney family farm, a place that had been home to generations of his family for more than a century. Gary worked hard throughout his life and held employment with Monon Trailer, Fulton Marshall Co-Op in Star City, and Alexander Farms. Whether working in the fields or tackling the day’s toughest task, Gary approached life with a grit that earned the respect of others.
Gary’s garden was the envy of many and he found joy not only in cultivating his harvest but also in sharing it. Family, friends, and neighbors were frequent recipients of fresh vegetables and home-canned goods. Gary enjoyed a spirited game of Euchre, watching a variety of sporting events, and attending rock concerts with his friends. Gary loved his family very much and was especially close with his nieces and nephews. Though he will be deeply missed, his memory will remain for generations to come.
He is survived by brothers: Michael [wife: Sue] McKinney, Steven [wife: Sherry] McKinney and Timothy [wife: Sharon] McKinney; nephews: Kyle McKinney and Bryan [partner: Meagan] McKinney; nieces: Molly [husband: Mike] Wardell and Brittany [husband: Clayton] Smith; five great-nieces and nephews: Theo, Mary Kate, Amelia, Sloane and Scottie; step-daughter Amy Stewart; and step-grandson Allister Moore.
Visitation will be from noon – 2 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 12, at Frain Mortuary in Winamac with memorial services at 2 p.m.
Burial will take place at Winamac Cemetery following services.
Memorial contributions may be made to Boy Scout Troop #229 or Pulaski County 4-H Fair Board.
