Donald G. Dommer
Donald G. “Don” Dommer, 93, of Winamac, passed away Monday, Oct. 27, at Hickory Creek Nursing Home in Winamac.
He was born on Feb. 22, 1932 in Denham, to the late Otto L. and Mollie E. (Henning) Dommer. He attended a one room school in rural Pulaski County. From 1952-54, Don was stationed at Ft. Knox, Kentucky where he served in the Honor Guard and Color Guard with the US Army 3rd Armored Division. On Aug. 15, 1953, he married Hannah M. Garling in Winamac. Don and Hannah recently celebrated 72 years of marriage. They were longtime members of St. Luke Lutheran Church and served their church faithfully throughout the years.
Don was an operating engineer with the IUOE Local #150. For many years, Don was an avid HAM Radio operator “N9IDL.” He was a talented woodworker, who blessed many with his creations. Don enjoyed finding bargains at garage sales. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by wife Hannah M. (Garling) Dommer, Winamac; daughter Kim Goodridge, Kokomo; son Mark [Jodie] Dommer, Winamac; grandsons: Jonathan [Angel] Goodridge, Kyle [Ashleigh Finley] Goodridge, Josh [Michele Nowatzke] Dommer, Jacob [Brooke] Dommer, Waylon [Kim] Burke, Justin [Danielle] Dommer; granddaughter Alisha [Jeff] Becker; 11 great-grandchildren: Sebastian, Nicholas, Eli, Isabella, Braylen, Reed, Peyton, Paxton, Taylor, Cooper and Elsie; sister Mary Abbott, Winamac; and many nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by parents: Otto L. and Mollie E. (Henning) Dommer; son-in-law David Goodridge; brothers: August Dommer, Walter Dommer, Harold Dommer, Henry Dommer and Richard Dommer; sisters: Helen Berg, Thelma Weldy, Velma Kasten, Mable Hankey and Marcella Hoffman; and twin brother Rev. Ronald Dommer.
Cremation will take place at Frain Crematory in Winamac.
Visitation was from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m., Monday, Nov. 3, at Frain Mortuary in Winamac.
Military Graveside Services were held at 2 p.m., Monday, Nov. 3, at Winamac Cemetery (McKinley Addition) in Winamac.
