Kermit E. “Buck” Parcel

Jan. 31, 1929 — June 1, 2025

Kermit E. “Buck” Parcel, 96, of Winamac, passed away on Sunday, June 1, at his home. 

He was born on Jan. 31, 1929 in Star City to the late Cecil and Eva (Miller) Parcel. Buck graduated from Star City High School in 1947. He served in the United States Marine Corps from 1951-1954. Buck was a member of the Winamac American Legion Post #71. On June 11, 2016, he received his Quilt of Valor.  

On April 26, 1951, Buck married the love of his life, Elizabeth A. “Betty” Widup. Buck and Betty enjoyed many special friendships with local couples. They were married for 64 years before Betty passed away on Nov. 30, 2015.  

Buck worked as a tractor mechanic at the local Case Dealer for many years. He also held jobs at Eaton’s, Galbreath’s and Winamac Elevator. At age 91, Buck retired from NAPA in Winamac.    

Buck was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Winamac. He enjoyed golfing and woodworking. Buck was an avid Chicago Cubs and IU Basketball fan.  

He is survived by daughter Denise Parcel, Winamac; son Mark Parcel, Winamac; brother-in-law James Widup; and many nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by parents: Cecil and Eva (Miller) Parcel; wife Elizabeth A. “Betty” (Widup) Parcel; and brothers: Darwin “Doc” [wife: Barb] Parcel, Gerald [wife: Anna] Parcel and Darl Dean [wife: Betty] Parcel.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m., Friday, June 6 at Frain Mortuary in Winamac.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Friday, June 6 at Frain Mortuary in Winamac, with Pastor Kim Powell officiating.

Burial will take place at Winamac Cemetery (McKinley Addition) in Winamac.

Memorial contributions may be made to Toys for Tots.
