Lois McKinley

Dec. 11, 1934 — June 5, 2024

Lois McKinley, 89, of South Bend, formerly of Winamac, passed away early morning Wednesday, June 5, at the Center for Hospice Care – Ernestine Raclin House in Mishawaka. 

She was born on Dec. 11, 1934, in Winamac to the late Lon and Flo (Lebo) McKinley. Lois attended school in Winamac and graduated with the Winamac High School Class of 1952. She attended St. Elizabeth School of Nursing in Lafayette, for a period of time. During the time she lived in Winamac, Lois served as Worthy Advisor for the Rainbow Girls. Lois was a 50-year member of the Tippecanoe Chapter #96 OES.

After moving to South Bend, Lois held a job in the security department at the former Robertson’s Department Store downtown. She then became a real estate agent and really enjoyed helping families find the perfect home. Lois joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was a member of the Relief Society.  

Lois loved coming to Winamac in August for the McKinley Cousins Reunion and especially enjoyed connecting with family members she rarely got to see. She had made the reunion last year and was looking forward to it this August. Her grandkids and great-grandkids brightened her days. She will be dearly missed by all those that loved her.

She is survived by daughters: Lorna [Smed] Miller, Winamac, Lee Hoover, Arden, Delaware and Carol [Ricky, Sr.] Kline, Mishawaka; sons: Allen [Cindy Cox] Hoover, Dayton, Minnesota, Andy Hoover, South Bend and Ron Hoover, South Bend; grandkids: Dustin [Jeannie Button] Hoover, Brandi [Nick] Silver, Nathan Gonzalez, Tana Hoover, Nick [Cathy Xiong] Hoover, Chris Hoover, Sarah Hoover, Ricky [Sarah] Kline, Jr., Cory [Autumn Howell] Kline, Stefanie [Jake] Gawne; step-grandkids: Brian Triesler and Danny Triesler; and someone she considered a bonus-grandkid: Adam Snider; great-grandkids: Cody, Lillie, Michelle, Travis, Chevie, Lylah, Anthony, Alyssa, Damian, Jayden, Natalie, Emily, Ahanya, Ellie, Everett, Riley, Luke, and Bailey; sisters-in-law: Joyce McKinley and Geneva McKinley, Winamac; and numerous nieces, nephews and some cousins.

Preceded in death by parents: Lon and Flo (Lebo) McKinley; sister and brother-in-law, Helen [Pete] White; and brothers: William “Billy” McKinley, Charles “Charlie” McKinley and Richard “Dick” McKinley.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m., Friday, June 14, at Frain Mortuary in Winamac.

Services will be held at 1 p.m., Friday, June 14, at Frain Mortuary in Winamac.

Burial will take place at Winamac Cemetery (McKinley Addition) in Winamac.

Memorial donations may be made to Center for Hospice Care 501 Comfort Place Mishawaka, IN 46545.  Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
