Winamac board of parks and recreation organizes

The Town of Winamac Board of Parks and Recreation accomplished quite a lot during their first official meeting including electing officers and discussing the community pool. 
On June 2, the board of Jon Chapman, Chris Schramm, Courtney Poor and Brad Zellers met to officially establish the board by swearing in, electing officers, and appointing Dave DeLorenzo as the park manager. 
They were also updated on the community pool effort and how the board can contribute to the project. 
During the meeting, Zellers, who is also the town manager, updated the board on how grant funding can help raise the needed funds. 
The discussion regarding the pool began with town attorney Justin Schramm presenting the board with a proposed Community Foundation of Pulaski County agreement in regards to a nonpermanent fund and a permanent fund. 
As the discussion continued, Poor asked how the grant process works. Zellers said some of the grants are simple, while others will have deadlines and need additional work. 
To obtain grants the board will work toward establishing the needed paperwork and items that are needed for potential grants such as a comprehensive plan and bylaws.  
Town clerk-treasurer Melanie Berger, who attended the meeting and took the minutes, said a comprehensive plan shows the grant-giving organizations that the park board has a plan for the future. 
A comprehensive plan is needed for not only the pool but also the four parks.
