Irene Helen Watkins

Irene Helen Watkins, 94, of Winamac, died peacefully at 11:24 p.m. Monday, Dec. 21, at Pulaski Health Care Center in Winamac.  

Irene was born on Sept. 18, 1921, in Danzig, Poland, to the late Albert and Agnes Mroczek. Irene was proud of her Polish heritage. 

She married Samuel Watkins on Sept. 28, 1940, in Knox. He preceded her in death in 1974.  

Irene was a member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church and Christian Mothers.  

She worked for many years at the Freeman Sewing Factory in Winamac and also as a nanny of Lauren and Sarah Miller. She loved children and helped many families when she could.

Irene will be sadly missed by her family.

Survivors include her sons: James [Linda] Watkins of Winamac, William [Kim] Watkins of Logansport, and Robert Watkins of Windsor, Colorado; daughters: Carlila [Alex] Serrano of Windsor, Colorado, and Sandra [Jason] Aguirre of Temecula, California; 16 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; and sisters: Stephane Watkins of Winamac, Teresa Joseph of Winamac, and Cecelia Neff of Rochester, New York. 

She was preceded in death by her parents Albert and Agnes Mroczek; husband Samuel Watkins; son Larry Watkins; brothers: John Mroczek, Robert Mroczek and Steven Mroczek; and sister Ann Caesar. 

Graveside services will be held Wednesday, January 6, 2016, at 11 a.m. at St. Peter’s Cemetery in Winamac.

Memorial contributions may be given to Pulaski Health Care Center  or St. Peter’s Catholic Church.
