Mary Katherine Haschel

Jan. 25, 1924 — Dec. 14, 2015

Mary Katherine Haschel, 91, of Winamac, passed away at 2:05 p.m. Monday, Dec. 14, at Pulaski Health Care Center in Winamac.  

She was born Jan. 25, 1924, in Yale, Iowa, to Ernest and Clara (Heater) Clements. 

Mary married John F. Haschel on May 27, 1950, in Attica. John died Jan. 9, 1996.

Mary was a cosmetologist and homemaker. She owned and operated her own beauty shop in Winamac for more than 40 years. Mary was a member of Winamac Church of the Nazarene,  Pulaski County REACT and the Pulaski County Underwater Recovery Unit. She was active in various political and social organizations. Mary enjoyed traveling, fishing, mushroom hunting and snowmobiling. She also enjoyed reading and researching topics of interest so that she could advocate for people in need. She and her husband John enjoyed frequent fishing trips to Spooner, Wisconsin.

Mary was a great mother and grandmother and will be dearly missed by her family. She loved and was loved. 

Survivors include her daughter Christine K. [Angel] Mendiola of Winamac; son Troy D. [Alex] Haschel of Winamac; daughter-in-law Connie S. Haschel of Winamac; grandchildren: Tammy Graham, Kim [Brooks] Johnson, Jason Crissinger, Brittany Mendiola, John Henry [Elaine] Haschel, Rick [Crystal] Haschel Jr., Michael [Emily] Haschel, Winston Haschel, Edwin Haschel and India Haschel; and great-grandchildren: Misty Graham, Kloee Graham, Baylee Graham, Zoee James, Aaron Heims, Zach Schmicker, Damien Fiscus, Emma Sizemore, Brody Sizemore, Sierra Haschel, Hunter Haschel, Kali Haschel and Lana Haschel. 

She was preceded in death by her husband John F. Haschel; son Rick W. Haschel Sr.; great-grandsons: Brandon D.J. Graham and Cody Heims; great-great-grandson Brady Graham; parents Ernest Chester and Clara Edith (Heater) Clements; one brother; and five sisters. 

Visitation was 3-8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 18, at Frain Mortuary, Winamac. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 19, at Frain Mortuary. Harold Smith officiated. Burial took place in McKinley Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
