Bernard Mittica, former fire chief, was traveling south on U.S. 35 with his 11-year-old granddaughter when the red 2003 GMC Sierra they were in was hit partially head-on by a black 2002 Mercury Mountaineer, driven by Shawn Knebel, traveling north on U.S. 35., south of CR 315 S.
