Woodrow W. “Tom” Skillen

Woodrow W. “Tom” Skillen, 95, of Peru, formerly of Star City, passed away at 2:55 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 21, at Blair Ridge Health Campus in Peru.

He was born Feb. 5, 1919, in Thornhope, to Willard and Lillian (Kochel) Skillen.

Tom married Genny Teske on Oct. 18, 1941, in Winamac. Genny survives.

Tom and Genny farmed in the Star City area most of their lives. He also worked as a welder for Herd Seeder in Logansport. He also had worked for the Indiana State Highway Dept and the Pulaski County Farm Bureau.

Tom was a member of the Star City United Methodist Church and the New Life Methodist Church in Mexico, Indiana. Tom and Genny moved to Peru in 2005.

He enjoyed Indiana University basketball, driving his tractor and bowling.

Tom enjoyed spending time with his family.

Survivors include his wife Genevieve (Teske) Skillen of Peru; daughter Sharon K. [John] Sayers of Bringhurst; son Darl D. [Diane] Skillen of Peru; granddaughters: Natalie [John] Pettit, Stephanie [Scott] Harris, Emily Pettit and Karen [Ryan] Baker; grandsons: Mike Skillen and Nick Skillen; and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents Willard and Lillian (Kochel) Skillen; sisters: Marie Skillen and Jennie Jack; and brothers: Joseph Skillen and William Skillen.

Visitation was 4-7 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 24, at Frain Mortuary in Winamac. Funeral services were at 1 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 25, at Frain Mortuary. Pastor Sam Polito officiated. Burial took place in McKinley Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Winamac.
