William Moyer “Bill” Wagner

June 22, 1926 — March 13, 2018

William Moyer “Bill” Wagner, 91, a lifelong farmer from Star City, passed away at 3:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 13, at Pulaski Memorial Hospital in Winamac. 

Bill was born on June 22, 1926, in Logansport, to the late Donald and Flossie (Moyer) Wagner. He graduated from Star City High School in 1944. Bill enlisted in the U.S. Army and served as a medic during World War II. On April 4, 1948, he married Geneva Marie Daily at Star City United Methodist Church. She preceded him in death on Nov. 24, 2011. 

Bill was a member of the Star City United Methodist Church. Bill was an accomplished jazz trumpeter and was a longtime member of the Melotones (a four-piece combo). He was a member of the Winamac American Legion and played taps for numerous veterans’ funerals. He enjoyed photography, dancing and traveling with his wife. The couple spent many winters in Palmetto, Florida. 

Survivors include his son Richard “Dick” [Marilyn] Wagner of Greenfield; daughter Jean [Bill] King of Culver; daughter-in-law Mary Wagner of Winamac; grandsons: Don [Cheri] Wagner, Jason Wagner, Andy [Apryl] Wagner, Ryan Wagner and David Wagner; and 10 great-grandchildren. 

He was preceded in death by his parents Donald and Flossie (Moyer) Wagner; wife Geneva Marie (Daily) Wagner; son Thomas Wagner; half brother Frank Wagner; and half sister Donna Miller. 

Visitation was 12:30–2 p.m. Sunday, March 18 at Frain Mortuary in Winamac. Services followed at 2 p.m. Rev. David Broad officiated. Burial took place at Star City West Cemetery in Star City. The American Legion and VFW conducted military graveside services.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Star City West Cemetery.
