William Joseph Reutebuch

Sept. 15, 1929 — Feb. 25, 2015

Wm. Joseph (Joe) Reutebuch, 85, passed away peacefully Feb. 25 in Dadeville, Alabama, surrounded by several family members.

Joe was born in Pulaski, to Marie and Joseph Reutebuch Sr. on Sept. 15, 1929.

After graduating from Pulaski High School in 1947 (where he played point guard for the high school team) Joe married his high school sweetheart, Viola Jane Fitz in 1950.

Joe and Viola raised five boys and two girls.

He’d made the trip to Alabama to live near his son and daughter-in-law, Eric and Maria Reutebuch. He was a lifelong member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus.

Throughout his life, Joe worked as a carpenter in Pulaski County and at Ancilla Convent in Donaldson. In later life, he worked for 15 years as a custodian at Winamac Community High School, retiring in 1983. After retiring, he continued to do carpentry and woodworking, making wooden crucifixes, birdhouses and toys for his family and friends.

He is survived by his wife Viola; his eldest daughter Diane [Dennis] Sweeney of Largo, Florida; eldest son Mark [Sandi] Reutebuch of Rapid City, South Dakota; Steve [Trish] Reutebuch of Seattle, Washington; Timothy [Mary Sue] Reutebuch of Whitewater, Wisconsin; Eric [Maria] Reutebuch of Dadeville, Alabama; and Theresa [John] Sottilare of Grand Junction, Colorado; brothers: Kenneth and Thomas Reutebuch; sisters: Marcella Silver and Ann Woodard; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his fourth son Brian [Karen] Reutebuch of Shelton, Washington.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.
