William Gene “Bill” Nicholson

William Gene “Bill” Nicholson, 88, of Winamac,  passed away at 8:21 p.m. Friday, March 5, at Franciscan Health Lafayette East in Lafayette. 

Bill was born on Jan. 31, 1933, in Arcola, Illinois, to the late William Kenneth and Geneiva (Vermillion) Nicholson.  On Jan. 26, 1952, Bill married Wilma Jean Archer in Winamac.  Jean died Jan. 25, 2017.

Bill retired from United Telephone Co. in 1995.  He was a member of the NRA. Bill enjoyed having breakfast with his friends at McDonald’s and having tea and crumpets with his sisters on Sunday.

He is survived by his sons: Alan [Donna] Nicholson of Winamac, and Rodney Nicholson of Winamac; granddaughters: Judy [Dan] Murphy, Michelle “Mo” [Mark] Fox and Lisa [Dave] Popejoy; grandson David [Felicia] Nicholson; 14 great-grandchildren; brother James [Judy] Nicholson of North Brook, Illinois; and sisters: Gretchen Bleicher of Winamac, and  Kay Eenshuistra of Winamac. 

He is preceded in death by his parents William Kenneth and Geneiva (Vermillion) Nicholson; wife Wilma Jean (Archer) Nicholson; and grandson Robert Nicholson. 

Private funeral services will be held at Frain Mortuary in Winamac with Rev. Edward Clark officiating. Private burial will take place at Winamac Cemetery in Winamac.  

Memorial contributions may be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
