Walter D. Engel, 74, of Knox, passed away at 2:18 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 14, at his residence.

He was born Nov. 1, 1940, in Chicago, Illinois, to Donald Earl and Mary Anna (Zabowka) Engel.

Walter married Maxine Woods on Feb. 8, 1964, in Knox. Maxine survives.

Walter was a dairy and grain farmer for more than 50 years. He served in the Indiana Army National Guard.

He was a member of the Catholic church. Walter was also a member of the Winamac Athletic Boosters.

He enjoyed watching his grandchildren play sports and also spending time with his family. Walter enjoyed vacationing with Maxine. He also enjoyed visiting with his neighbors.

Walter will be sadly missed by his family and friends.

Survivors include his wife Maxine Woods Engel of Knox; daughter Tammy [Jeff] Brandt of Monterey; son Walter Donald [Stephany] Engel of Orlando, Florida; granddaughters: Cortney Brandt and Jordan Brandt; grandsons: Austin Brandt and Beau Brandt; and sister Pauline [Michael] Wagner of Monon.

He was preceded in death by Donald Earl and Mary Anna (Zabowka) Engel.

Visitation was 3-8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 17, at Frain Mortuary, Winamac, and one hour prior to services on Wednesday. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 18, at Frain Mortuary with Rev. Matt Landry officiating. Burial will take place in Round Lake Cemetery. Military graveside services will be conducted.
