Vern V. Planck

June 20, 1921 — July 7, 2016

Vern V. Planck, 95, of Goshen, formerly of Millersburg, died at 6:55 p.m., on Thursday, July 7, at his residence. 

He was born on June 20, 1921, in Pulaski County to Sylvester V. and Nella (Clark) Planck. On April 4, 1950, in Omaha, Nebraska, he married Mary Margaret Davis, who died on Feb. 6, 2014. 

Vern graduated from Winamac High School in 1939. In August of 1942 he joined the Marines, serving in the war zone in the South Pacific. He was honorably discharged in October of 1945. He attended Evansville College and graduated from Lain College with a certificate in industrial engineering. He was also a graduate from the Real Estate Institute at Michigan University. He was employed with an engineering firm in Indianapolis until 1950. In 1983, he retired as president of the Tri-Land Development Corporation, a Michigan Corporation. In 1992 they moved to their farm east of Millersburg. 

He was preceded in death by his wife; parents; sisters: Helen Scott and Edna Dye; and brothers: Marion Planck, Kermit William Planck and Wayne Planck. 

Visitation was 4-7 p.m. on Tuesday, July 12, at Miller-Stewart Funeral Home, 1003 S. Main St., Middlebury. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, July 13, also at the funeral home. Military honors will be given after the funeral by American Legion Post # 210, Middlebury. Services will be conducted by Pastor James Clifton of St. John’s Lutheran Church. Burial will be in St. Peter’s Catholic Cemetery, Winamac. 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the charity of the donor’s choice.
