Thomas E. “Tom” Saltsman Sr.

Nov. 30, 1939 — March 17, 2022

Thomas E. “Tom” Saltsman Sr., 82, of Medaryville, went home to be with his Lord on Thursday, March 17, at IU Health Hospital in Lafayette. 

Tom was born on Nov. 30, 1939, in Medaryville to the late Hallie and Edna Mae (Brick) Saltsman. Tom married Karma Jean Hughes on Sept. 14, 1958, in Medaryville. She died on Sept. 6, 2012. 

Tom was a life member of NRA, and the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 150. He was retired from Vulcan Materials in Francesville after 35 years. 

Tom enjoyed woodworking and working on cars. He also enjoyed fishing. Tom especially enjoyed spending time with friends and family. 

Tom will be dearly missed by all who knew and  loved him.

He is survived by his sons: Thomas E. [Penny] Saltsman Jr. of Winamac and Gary D. [Sandy] Saltsman of Medaryville; daughter Teresa L. [Tom] Bryant of  Winamac; sisters: Peggy [Bill] Coburn of Logansport and Mary Margaret [Art] Coburn of Monticello; eight grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. 

He was preceded in death by his parents: Hallie and Edna Mae Brick Saltsman; wife Karma Jean Hughes Saltsman; grandson Benjamin Bryant; sisters: Helen Wrench, Doris June Saltsman, Evelyn Nelson, Mildred Bennett, Lucille Dunn, Ruth Ann Terry and Violet McCoy; and brothers: Archie “Skip” Saltsman, Donald Saltsman and Raymond Saltsman Sr.

A celebration of life was held on Sunday, March 20 at 4 p.m. at Meadow Springs (8631 S. US 421, Francesville). A dinner was served following services.

Friends visited with the family from 1 p.m. until the time of the services on Sunday. 

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
