Stephina Watkins

Aug. 23, 1924 — Jan. 11, 2022

Stephina Watkins, 97, of Winamac, passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 11, at Pulaski Memorial Hospital in Winamac.  

She was born on Aug. 23, 1924, in Stickney, Illinois, to the late Albert and Agnes (Pavlak) Mroczek. Stephina attended Catholic School in San Pierre and North Judson.  On May 29, 1944, she married William “Bill” Watkins in Winamac. Bill passed away on Nov. 26, 1987.

Stephina worked at a factory in downtown Winamac for many years, where she sewed zippers into blue jeans.  She was a longtime member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Winamac. Stephina crocheted many afghans, scarfs, and hats for her family and friends. She enjoyed playing Pinochle at the Bass Lake Community Center as well as at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Knox. Stephina was the “Queen of Scrabble” in her family.  

Stephina was the last of nine siblings. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and great-great grandmother. Stephina will be dearly missed.

She is survived by her daughters: Joyce [Mark C.] Faulstich of Plymouth, Josephine [David] Ramp of Columbia City and Jacqualine Owens Terry of Winamac; son Emzie [Kathy] Watkins of Nappanee; grandsons: Jason [Angie] Faulstich, Mark J. [Kara] Faulstich, Jeffrey [Dr. Valerie Lake] Faulstich, Wayne [Patsy] Watkins, Nicklos Watkins, Paul Ramp, Billy Owens and Michael [Shelley] Owens; granddaughters: Sheila Jackson, Lisa [Dominic] Ricci, Jenny [Tony] Schmucker,  Jaime Watkins and Debra Jo [Jason] Harmon; many great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. 

She was preceded in death by her parents: Albert and Agnes (Pavlak) Mroczek; husband William “Bill” Watkins; grandson James Faulstich; and three brothers and five sisters. 

Visitation was from 3-7 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 17 at Frain Mortuary in Winamac.

The Rosary was recited at 7 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 17 at Frain Mortuary in Winamac.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 18 at Frain Mortuary with Rev. Andrew DeKeyser officiating.

Burial will take place at Winamac Cemetery (McKinley Addition) in Winamac.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Michael Catholic School in Plymouth.
