Staff Sgt. Andrew Charles Budd

Staff Sgt. Andrew Charles Budd, 27, of El Paso, Texas, formerly of Winamac, passed away Sunday, Aug. 23, at his residence in El Paso, Texas.

He was born March 17, 1988, in Louisville, Kentucky, to Charles and Leanne (Heater) Budd.

Andrew married Casey Mcinnes on March 3, 2010, in Lawrenceville, Georgia. She survives.

Andrew was a former resident of Winamac and graduated from Winamac Community High School in 2006.

He enlisted in the U.S. Army on Jan. 14, 2009, serving in the Signal Brigade specializing in satellite communications and was currently stationed at Fort Bliss, Texas. He was promoted to the rank of Sergeant on Dec. 1, 2012, and was posthumously promoted to the rank of Staff Sergeant. He was the recipient of the Army Commendation Medal, three (posthumous); Army Achievement Medal, four; Army Good Conduct Medal, two; National Defense Service Medal; Iraq Campaign Medal with Bronze Service Star; Global War on Terrorism Service Medal; Noncommissioned Officers Professional Development Ribbon; Army Service Ribbon; Overseas Service Ribbon; and a Meritorious Unit Commendation.

While serving in the Army he assisted in the cleanup, recovery and establishing communications following the earthquake in Haiti. He also served in Iraq, Turkey, and had been stationed in Germany and Texas. While stationed in Germany he was able to travel Europe extensively with his wife.

Andrew loved to read and travel. Andrew and Casey enjoyed spending time hiking and climbing. They were always sightseeing and searching for an adventure. They were always interested in learning about new cultures.

Andrew was very outgoing and enjoyed exploring the world with the love of his life and best friend Casey.

Survivors include his wife Casey Budd of El Paso, Texas; mother and stepfather Leanne P. and John Behny of Winamac; father and stepfather Charles L. Budd and Mark Fout of El Paso, Texas; brother Phillip [Rachel] Budd of Winamac; sisters: Gabrielle Behny of Winamac, and Victoria Behny of Winamac; grandparents: Victor and Judy Heater of Winamac, and Linda and Roger Buschman of Rensselaer, and Tom Behny and Gay Lyn Birkholz of LaPorte; great-grandmothers: JoAnn Behny of North Manchester, and Patricia O’Donnell of Goodland; great-grandparents Earl and Louise Schultz of Francesville; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents Alfred and Lucy Budd; great-grandparents: Joe and Rosemary Heater and John and Dorothy O’Donnell; aunt Carolyn O’Donnell; and uncle Dick Heater.

Visitation was from 3-8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 1, at Frain Mortuary. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 2, at Frain Mortuary, Winamac, with Chaplain Jim Staggers officiating. The U.S. Army will provide full military honors for Andrew in the McKinley Memorial Gardens Cemetery following the services.
