Shurla A. Rans

Sept. 20, 1917 — March 14, 2018

Shurla A. Rans, 100, of Winamac, passed away on Wednesday, March 14, at home. 

Shurla was born on Sept. 20, 1917, in Deland, Illinois, to the late Joseph B. and Margaret (Kingsborough) Bealor. The family moved to Indiana when she was 4. Shurla graduated from Kingsbury High School in 1935. On May 16, 1954, she married the late Raymond J. Rans. 

Shurla was a member of Winamac First Christian Church and the Christian Women’s Fellowship. She was also a member of Winamac Eagles Auxiliary 2580, LaPorte Rose Rebekah Lodge 408 and Winamac Sophronia Rebekah Lodge 122, Winamac VFW Ladies Auxiliary 1728 and the Monroe Modern Homemakers Home-Ec Club. 

Shurla was a hardworking woman and proud homemaker. During the years, she had worked at Kingsbury Ordinance Plant, Smolers Bros., Rice Corp. and TV Cable. Shurla was a talented cook and seamstress. She enjoyed writing letters to family and gathering for lunch with family, something she continued to do until a few months ago. Shurla loved her entire family dearly and will be sadly missed.

Survived include her daughters: Mary A. Rans of Winamac, and Lois R. [Gary] Denton of Clayton; grandchildren: Heidi [Paul] Felty, Adam Denton, Nicholas [Kalah] Denton and Dustin Brown; great-grandchildren: Gabriel and Joselyn; and many nieces and nephews. 

She was preceded in death by her parents Joseph B. and Margaret (Kingsborough) Bealor; husband Raymond J. Rans; son Gary L. Rans; sisters: Louise, Esther and Alma; and brothers: Willard, Foster, Harold, Ray, Bob, Wayne and Kenneth. 

Visitation was from 4-8 p.m. Friday, March 16, at Frain Mortuary in Winamac. Funeral services were at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 17, at Frain Mortuary in Winamac. Pastor Jeff Seger officiated. Burial took place at Winamac Cemetery in Winamac.
