Shirley Mae Bowen

Shirley Mae Bowen, 95, of Glendale, Arizona (formerly of Winamac), went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, July 25.

She was born on June 24, 1920, in Shamokin, Pennsylvania, to the late Alvin Harold and Emma Viola (Shallick) Jones.

She married Marvin Floyd Bowen on Nov. 16, 1944, in Chicago. He preceded her in death on July 2, 1985.

Shirley was a 1943 graduate of Moody Bible Institute.

She was a musician, musical instructor and homemaker. During the years, she served as the organist at several local churches. She enjoyed poetry and reading Heartsong Presents books.

Shirley was a member of Bethel Bible Church in Winamac. She had been active with the Pulaski County Council on Aging and the Pulaski County Human Services in Winamac, as well as the American Legion Auxiliary in Chicago.

Shirley was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend. She will be dearly missed.

Survivors include her son Marvin R. [Sharon] Bowen of Glendale, Arizona; grandchildren: Jason [Vickie] Bowen of Glendale, Arizona, Brian [Sheri] Bowen of Blue Ridge, Virginia, and Amanda [Caleb] Thompson of Beavercreek, Ohio; great-grandchildren: Taylor, Hannah, Justin, Ashley, Matthew, Jonathan, Brynn, Sophie, Christabel and Josiah; sister Florence Heitzman; brother Jack [Cora Ellen] Jones; stepsister Erma Lorenz; and sisters-in-law: Margaret Jones and Becky Bowen.

She was preceded in death by her husband Marvin Floyd Bowen; son Paul Harvey Bowen; parents Alvin Harold and Emma Viola (Shallick) Jones; sisters: Faye Jones and Betty Long; and brothers: Edward Jones and Alvin Jones.

A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 5, at Bethel Bible Church in Winamac. Burial of cremated remains will take place at McKinley Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Winamac, following services.

Memorial contributions may be given to Bethel Bible Church Missions Fund.
