Sharon S. Fitzsimons

Aug. 8, 1942 — Oct. 24, 2020

Cedar Lake resident Sharon S. Fitzsimons, 78, passed away at 10:39 a.m., Oct. 24, at the home of her daughter, Donna, at Bruce Lake.

On Aug. 8, 1942, Sharon Sue Wynkoop was born in Gary. She was a precious daughter of Chester Ivan and Helen Irene (Button) Wynkoop. Growing up as one of the seven Wynkoop kids, she shared her childhood with two sisters, Karen and Pat, and four brothers, Doug, Don, David and Larry. With great Trojan pride, Sharon graduated from Highland High School in 1960. 

As entrepreneurs, Sharon and her daughter, Christina, opened a full-service salon in Schererville, A Plus Haircrafters. She cultivated many lifelong relationships with her customers during the more than three decades of service. 

Left to cherish Sharon's memory are her children Christina [Ken] Hoeckelberg of Crown Point, Donna [Jeff] Sholes of Bruce Lake, Richard [Cynthia] Fitzsimons Jr. of Crown Point; sister Karen [Royce III] Hamende of Cedar Lake; brother Doug [Kelly] Wynkoop of Cedar Lake; grandchildren: Kyle Hoeckelberg, Max Hoeckelberg, Paige Flandland and Alexis Fitzsimons; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

Preceding Sharon in death are her parents Chester and Helen Wynkoop; sister Pat Leep on Nov. 1, 2017; and Wynkoop brothers: Donald in 1989, David on Feb. 27, 2019, and Larry on Sept. 5, 2019.

In following Sharon's wishes, her family will hold a private family celebration of her life.
