Sarah Margaret Bleicher

Sarah Margaret Bleicher, 91, of Indianapolis, formerly of La Porte, passed away at 5:45 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 26, at Community Hospital South in Indianapolis. 

Sarah was born on Dec. 26, 1927, in Francesville, to the late Herman and Irene Nightengale. She grew up in Winamac, and spent most of her life in La Porte. Sarah was married to the late Arthur E. Bleicher who preceded her in death on April 16, 1983. She was the proud wife of a World War II veteran and a life member of the VFW Auxiliary. She was retired from Howmet factory in La Porte and was a member of the Howmet Quarter Century Club. 

Sarah enjoyed volunteering at the local senior center and serving meals on wheels. She loved her dachshund, Pepper. Sarah devoted her life to her husband and children. Most of all, she loved her grandchildren. Sarah will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.

She is survived by her sons: Arthur E. “Jake” [Connie] Bleicher Jr. of Indianapolis, and James P. “Jim” Bleicher of Monroe, New York; grandsons: John [Gina] Adamson, Arthur E. “Ted” [Miranda] Bleicher III and Jeff [Brittany] Bleicher; granddaughters: Sara Johnson and Amanda [Adam] Clark; many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; brother-in-law Edward [Elaine] Bleicher; sisters-in-law Gertrude Bleicher Stout Rife and Gretchen Bleicher; and several nieces and nephews. 

She was preceded in death by her parents Herman and Irene Margaret (Hackett) Nightengale; husband Arthur E. Bleicher Sr.; daughter Nancy (Bleicher) Adamson; granddaughter Carrie Adamson; one great-granddaughter; sister Caroline [Ray] Maurer; brothers: Richard “Dick” [Bert] Nightengale, Thomas [Liz] Nightengale, David Nightengale and Phillip [Thelma] Nightengale; brothers-in-law: Robert Bleicher, Carl Bleicher, Lewis Bleicher and George Bleicher; and sister-in-law Esther [Mel] Dust.

Visitation will be from noon–2 p.m Saturday, Nov. 2, at Frain Mortuary in Winamac. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 2, at Frain Mortuary in Winamac, with Arthur E. Bleicher III officiating. Burial will take place at Winamac Cemetery in Winamac. 

Memorial contributions may be made to La Porte Senior Center or VFW Auxiliary.
