Sara “Janie” Schneider

Sara “Janie” Schneider, 75, of Winamac, formerly of Logansport, passed away at 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday, July 31, in Franciscan Health, Indianapolis.

Born Jan. 26, 1943, in Logansport, she was the daughter of Thomas F. and Erma Louise (Burk) Keener.

Janie was a 1961 graduate of Logansport High School. She earned a bachelor’s degree from Indiana State University in 1965 and a master’s degree from Indiana University Kokomo in 1981.

For 29 years Janie was a second-grade teacher at Eastern Pulaski Elementary School, retiring in 2008.

Surviving are a daughter Amy L. [Rob] Nelson of New Paris; son Michael W. Schneider of Greenwood; sister Carol L. [Phil] Waechter of Florida; sister-in-law Betty Keener of Bloomington; grandchildren: Benjamin Nelson and Elizabeth Nelson; niece Tania [Dave] Currier; nephew Jeff Waechter; and two great-nieces.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother Jerry L. Keener; and ex-husband Robert W. Schneider.

Visitation will be from 10-11 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 11, at Kroeger Funeral Home, Logansport. A memorial service and celebration of Janie’s life will follow at 11 a.m. with her son-in-law, the Rev. Rob Nelson, officiating. Interment will be in Walton IOOF Cemetery at a later date.
