Rudolph H. “Rudy” Schultz

Rudolph H. “Rudy” Schultz, 91, of Kewanna, passed away at 5:56 a.m. Monday, Sept. 5, at Woodlawn Hospital in Rochester. 

Rudy was born on Dec. 8, 1924, to the late Rudolph and Freida Schultz in Hammond, and was raised in Medaryville. On May 11, 1972, Rudy married Janice Bucinski, who survives. 

Rudy was a World War II veteran, having served as a radar instructor in the U.S. Air Force. He was a retired Indiana State Trooper after 21 years. After retirement, he was an employee of the U.S. government, serving as a law enforcement officer and with the department of forestry for 13 years.

Rudy was a lifetime member of the VFW Post #1728 in Winamac. He was also a member of the Winamac Masonic Lodge #228 F&AM and the South Bend Scottish Rite. In 2014, he received his Award of Gold. 

He enjoyed woodworking, fishing, coin and metal detecting, and cooking. 

He is survived by his wife Janice K. (Bucinski) Schultz of Kewanna; son Rodney [Tara] Schultz of South Dakota; daughter Sandra Schultz of Texas; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; brother Bill [Marie] Schultz of Texas; and several nieces and nephews. 

He was preceded in death by his parents Rudolph Herman and Freida (Mohr) Schultz; one sister; and five brothers. 

Visitation will be Friday, Sept. 9, from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. at Frain Mortuary, Winamac. Masonic services will take place at 11 a.m. Friday. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. at Frain Mortuary with Rev. Bert Woolson officiating. Burial will take place at St. Peter’s Cemetery, Winamac. The American Legion and VFW will conduct Military Graveside Services. 

Memorial contributions may be made to American Heart Association, American Cancer Society, or American Diabetes Association.
