Robert Howard Jeffers Sr.
Robert Howard Jeffers Sr., 81, of Winamac, passed away at 10:30 a.m., Friday, Aug. 25, at Lafayette.
Robert was born on March 10, 1936, in Chilo, Ohio, to Robert and Nanny Eloise Owen Jeffers. Robert married Shelby Jean Bryant on March 15, 1957, in Hammond.
Robert was a member of the Winamac Fraternal Order of Eagles. He was a foreman in the galvanizing department of Youngstown Sheet and Tube/LTV Steel. He worked in the mills for 43 years. Robert was a hard worker and an avid gardener who had a green thumb. He grew up on a farm in Ohio and enjoyed raising vegetables and cattle. He loved nature. Robert enjoyed spending time with his family. He especially enjoyed grilling burgers for them.
He is survived by his daughters: Paula Jean (Chris) Cook of Downers Grove, Illinois, Kim Richmond-Jeffers-Wallace, and Kandy Richmond-Jeffers; sons: Mark Allen Jeffers of Chicago, and Robert H. [Laura] Jeffers Jr. of Crown Point; grandsons: Bryan C. Lane of Washington, D.C., Robert A. [Nikki] Jeffers of Martinsville, and Benjamin Janowski; granddaughters: Sarah J. [Toni] Dimitrov of Clarendon Hills, Illinois, Emily E. Cook of Lisle, Illinois, and Brooke Janowski; great-grandson Samuel Dimitrov; great-granddaughter Eva Jeffers; sisters: Martha Sue Jeffers of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, and Sandra Jean [Gary] Steele of Georgetown, Ohio; and aunt Florencie Cossens of Felicity, Ohio.
She was preceded in death by parents Robert and Nanny Eloise (Owen) Jeffers; and wife Shelby Jean (Bryant) Jeffers.
Visitation was 3-9 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 29, at Frain Mortuary. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 30, at Frain Mortuary with Pastor Dave Marty officiating. Burial will take place Wednesday, Aug. 30, at McKinley Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Winamac.
