Richard K. Burger

Richard K. Burger, 84, Knox, passed away at 2:31 p.m. Thursday, March 12, at Indiana University Health Starke Hospital in Knox.

He was born Nov. 4, 1930, in Clayton, Michigan, to Cleo and Edith (Bishop) Burger.

He was married to JoAnn Mercer on Nov. 13, 1953, in Clayton, Michigan. JoAnn survives.

A native of Michigan, Richard moved to Winamac in 1968 when Plymouth Tube closed in Adrian, Michigan. Following retirement Richard and JoAnn spent the summers at Bass Lake and the winters in Brooksville, Florida. They were very involved in many activities in their Florida community.

He served in the U.S. Army stationed in Japan during the Korean War.

Richard retired from Plymouth Tube Co. in 1995. He spent 45 years with the company in Michigan and Winamac. He enjoyed his work.

He enjoyed fishing, football and loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Richard was always attending his grandchildren’s sporting events and loved to watch them.

Survivors include his wife JoAnn M. Burger of Knox; sons: John Burger of Hillman, Michigan, Jack [Pam] Burger of Winamac, Jeff [Julia] Burger of Hillman, Michigan; daughter Julie [Dan] Burgess of Winamac; grandsons: Michael [Laura] Burger, Joseph Burger, Josh [Kim] Burgess, Kyle [Amy] Burgess, Brandon [Shannon] Burgess, Jacob Burger and Jeremiah Burger; granddaughters: Karla [Justin] Rausch and Rachel [Sam] Burns; great-grandsons: Samuel Rausch, Ethan Burgess, Evan Burgess and Eli Burgess; great-granddaughters: Molly Rausch, Haley Burns, Raegan Burns and Katelyn Burgess; and sister Judy Cole of Adrian, Michigan.

He was preceded in death by his parents Cleo and Edith (Bishop) Burger; brother Cleo Vernon Burger Jr.; and daughter-in-law Carol Burger.

Visitation will be from noon until the time of the service, Wednesday, March 18, at Frain Mortuary, Winamac. A celebration of life service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 18, at Frain Mortuary, with Rev. Daniel W. Burgess officiating. Burial will take place in Star City West Cemetery, Star City. The American Legion and VFW will conduct military graveside services.

Memorial contributions may be given to the Winamac Community High School Athletic Department.
