Raymond L. Podell

Jan. 18, 1945 — April 3, 2018

Raymond L. Podell, 73, of Grand Forks, North Dakota, passed away on April 3, at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks.

Raymond was born Jan. 18, 1945, in Winamac, the son of Lowell and Helen (Timm) Podell. He grew up and graduated from Winamac High School in 1963.

He married Deanna Cunningham June 6, 1964, in Denham. They lived in Terre Haute, where he received Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts degrees from Indiana State, and later moved to Raleigh, North Carolina, where he received an Education Doctorate Degree from North Carolina State. They moved to Grand Forks in 1973, and Raymond taught at the University North Dakota IT department. He worked most recently for David Burkland farms. 

Raymond enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with family at their lake home in Bissitte, Manitoba, Canada. 

Raymond is survived by his wife Deanna; son Robert [Kathy] Podell of Grand Forks; grandchildren: Jade [Morgan Barry] Podell and Myranda Podell of Grand Forks; brother Rick [Jeanie] Podell of Plymouth; furry friends: Wigs and Wags; and several nieces and nephews: Ryan [Kate] Podell of Zionsville, JT [Julie] Podell of Palm Beach, Florida, and Kimberly [Tom] Tokoly of North Liberty. 

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation was 2:30-3:30 p.m., on Saturday, April 7, at Amundson Funeral Home, 2975 S. 42nd St., Grand Forks, North Dakota. Funeral services followed at 3:30 p.m. at Amundson Funeral Home.
