Phyllis J. Cords

Sept. 28, 1932 — July 4, 2016

Phyllis June Cords, 83, of Francesville, passed away at 6:45 p.m. Monday, July 4, at Franciscan Health Hospital in Rensselaer.  

Phyllis was born Sept. 28, 1932, in Francesville to the late James and Mary Belle (Harper) Steffel. She graduated from Francesville High School in 1950. On April 20, 1952, Phyllis married Richard Cords in Francesville. He preceded her in death on Sept. 1, 1999.

Phyllis was an avid Indiana University basketball fan. She enjoyed working in her yard and spending time with her friends.

Phyllis was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include her daughter Cindy [Rudy] DeSabatine of Winamac; son Roger Cords of Francesville; grandsons: Chad [Karen] Clark of Yukon, Oklahoma, and Austin [Heather] Clark of Winamac; great-granddaughters: Makani Clark and Malii Clark; and sister-in-law Carolyn Cords of Francesville.

She was preceded in death by her parents James and Mary Belle (Harper) Steffel; husband Richard Cords; son-in-law Don Clark; three sisters and four brothers.  

Graveside services were held at 3 p.m. Friday, July 8, at Roseland Cemetery, Francesville.  Pastor James Ketchen officiated. Burial followed at Roseland Cemetery.

Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to Frain Mortuary Querry-Ulbricht Chapel, Francesville.

Memorial contributions may be given to an education fund established at Alliance Bank for her great granddaughters.
