Phyllis Audrey Good

Phyllis Audrey Good, 85, of Indianola, Iowa, (formerly of Winamac), died Thursday, July 9, at Good Samaritan Care Center in Indianola.

She was born on Aug. 11, 1929, near Star City, to Russell Clifford and Thelma Elcina (Hoover) Bonnell.

She graduated as salutatorian from Pulaski High School in 1947. She later attended business school and after her children were grown, earned a Bachelor of Arts degree (summa cum laude) in sociology/psychology from Buena Vista College in Storm Lake, Iowa. She married Kenneth O. Good on Sept. 28, 1947, in rural Pulaski County and over the years the couple made their home in Boise, Idaho, Humboldt, Iowa, Winamac, and Horseshoe Bend, Arkansas, before moving to Indianola in March of 2015.

Phyllis spent much of her early married life as a homemaker and raising her family. She later was employed with Planned Parenthood and as an admissions counselor for Buena Vista College. In addition to her devotion to family, she was an avid bridge player and enjoyed reading, music, playing the French horn, gardening, and genealogy, fulfilling her love of writing by producing volumes of family history.

Survivors include her husband Kenneth of 67 years; daughters: Lynn [Steve] Hakeman of Indianola, Iowa, and Martha [Phil Slade] Winegarden of Solon, Iowa; son John [fiance Stephanie Fox] of Boise, Iowa; grandchildren: Jennifer [Jamie] Bradfield, Kristine Winegarden, Molly [Travis] Wright, Heidi [Bryan] Labertew, and Kathryn [fiance Steve Garcia] Winegarden; great-grandchildren: Elaina, Max, Keira, Lauren and Talia; sister-in-law Edna Bonnell of Winamac; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother Leon Bonnell; sisters: Donna Wright and Marilyn Chun; and brother-in-law Alex Chun.

Burial of cremated remains will take place Saturday, Aug. 22, at 1:30 p.m. at the Pulaski Presbyterian Cemetery in Pulaski. A gathering of celebration will follow at 2:30 p.m. at Moss Creek Golf Course in Winamac.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society or Planned Parenthood.
